Model Drawing & Painting: Academic Expressionism
TilmeldIn this unique course with New York based artist Lucas Bononi, students will learn how an academic approach to modelling form will enable them to work from the live model in an expressive style.
The traditional concept of form is the major theme of this course, referring to the way in which the painter or draftsman “sculpts” volume as it relates to the light source. Throughout class, Lucas will lecture on the properties of form, physics of light, optics, and composition, in order to depict truthful three-dimensional volumes. Students may then use these skills to create expressive, stylized works in a way that is visually compelling.
Lucas’ class offers a blend between learning a structured academic method to working from the live model, balanced with an emphasis on personal voice and style. Contemporary experimentation will be encouraged, alongside personal guidance from Lucas for students to gain greater understanding of what they want to “say” with their art.A list of materials to bring will be sent out a couple of weeks before start.

The balance of Realism with Expressionism is something I've always done. In order to do my best work realistically, I joined Grand Central Atelier and in order to express myself, I've been taking abstract classes consistently over the last decade. Both extremes, I told myself, will grow only when isolated. I love both the same, like if they are my two kids.
